Search, probing and excavation training on the electronic training ground

Program designed for those who have already attended an avalanche workshop or have the basics of theoretical and practical knowledge about avalanche safety and would like to refresh avalanche safety procedures - searching, probing, excavating.

Necessary prior knowledge :

  • handling of avalanche beacon, probe and shovel

Training day consists of:

  • avalanche beacon search training on the electronic training ground (see top of this page)
    • signal search, first signal, aircraft landing method search, fine search, MARK function, procedures in case of multiple (near) buried subjects, rescue organization in case of multiple rescuers
  • probing
    • marking the point with the shortest distance to the buried subject, perpendicular probing, distance between probe-punctures,
    • trying out different surfaces with a probe through a snow pack (helmet, ski boots, clothing, branches, ...)
  • excavating
    • selection of the starting point of excavation, excavation using the conveyor belt method, the work of individual roles in the mentioned method, basic handling of the buried subject

We start in the morning at a place we choose depending on the snow conditions. The workshop lasts approximately 5 hours or depending on the enthusiasm of the participants.
