Avalanche workshops
One of the biggest dangers in the mountains in winter is avalanches. At the avalanche workshop, you will gain knowledge for successful risk assessment and consequent avoidance of avalanches, as well as learn measures and procedures in the event of an avalanche accident.
Electronic training ground - Easy Searcher
✅ Control unit and 6 targets,
✅ targets are touch sensitive,
✅ remote control - targets are buried entire training period,
✅ control unit measures time untill probe hit for each target,
✅ extensive training - searching with avalanche beacon, probing, excavating,
✅ easly to create diferent situations like multiple close buried subjects and deep buried subject.
With 6 touch-sensitive targest, we can simulate up to 63 different searching scenarios, with just a few clicks. The training ground is prepared on an area the size of the most typical avalanche - approximately 150 - 200 m long and 50 - 80 m wide.
Easy searcher training ground is unique in Slovenia.

Workshops are carried out in small, boutique groups (up to 6-7). This way, there is enough time for individual work, adaptation to the prior knowledge of the participants, questions and discussion.
For groups of friends/acquaintances, we organize workshops according to your availability and prior knowledge. Workshop can also be carried out in connection with a (ski)tour in the mountains.
The minimum number of participants for avalanche workshops is 5.
Speed and efficiency are crucial in the event of an avalanche accident to increase the chances of survival of the buried person. Avalanche safety is certainly not just about the speed at which procedures are carried out in the event of an accident. If possible, we want to avoid the unpleasant situation entirely.

Search, probing and excavation training on the electronic training ground
Program designed for those who have already attended an avalanche workshop or have the basics of theoretical and practical knowledge about avalanche safety and would like to refresh avalanche safety procedures - searching, probing, excavating.
Necessary prior knowledge :
- handling of avalanche beacon, probe and shovel
Training day consists of:
- avalanche beacon search training on the electronic training ground (see top of this page)
- signal search, first signal, aircraft landing method search, fine search, MARK function, procedures in case of multiple (near) buried subjects, rescue organization in case of multiple rescuers
- probing
- marking the point with the shortest distance to the buried subject, perpendicular probing, distance between probe-punctures,
- trying out different surfaces with a probe through a snow pack (helmet, ski boots, clothing, branches, ...)
- excavating
- selection of the starting point of excavation, excavation using the conveyor belt method, the work of individual roles in the mentioned method, basic handling of the buried subject
We start in the morning at a place we choose depending on the snow conditions. The workshop lasts approximately 5 hours or depending on the enthusiasm of the participants.
60 € / person
Courses held in English only for private groups of more than 5 participants. Contact me to arrange a date.
Comprehensive avalanche workshop
Program designed for those who would like to get all the avalanche-related knowladge, to safely carry out tours in the mountains.
Neccessary prior knowladge:
- you do not need prior knowledge to participate in this workshop
Program consist of:
THEORETICAL PART
- Types of avalanches
- usualy conditions for triggering avalanches
- factors affecting triggering
- (Ski)tour planning
- basic principles of exsisting in the mountains in winter
- risk assessment at home - passive methods
- risk assessment on the field, during the tour - active methods
- avalanche forecast - where to find it and how to read it
- Avalanche equipment
- Measures and procedures in the event of an accident - search, probing, excavation
- rescue organisation
PRACTICAL PART
- two-way avalanche beacon test before the tour
The theoretical part lasts about 3 hours and is carried out in the evening, the day before the practical work in the field. The practical part, starting in the morning, takes about 6 hours.

For skiers, avalanche workshops are possible in connection with a ski-tour in the mountains. Thus, risk assessment, choice of ascent/descent direction, snow cover sections, etc., are processed both in theory and in the field during the tour. To organize a workshop in such a framework, please contact me. The minimum number of applications is 4.
