Protected trails and via ferata
Slovenia is one of the few countries that separates protected trails and sports ferratas (via Ferata). Sports ferratas are sports facilities that are usually located close to the road and are primarily focused on agility of movement and athletic readiness of the individual. Some even use them for afternoon recreation. The main feature of sports ferratas is that the steel cable is continuously tensioned from start to finish, regardless of the difficulty of the ascent. Protected trails, however, are mostly located in the mountains and usually lead to the top of the mountain. They are led over the easiest possible crossings. Unlike sports ferratas, cable present in protected trails is not continuously tensioned from start to finish, but only in places where it is most needed (for safety reasons).
